Okay, not much of a collector's item but, then again, not much of a price. Our least expensive car. BY A LOT.
Was sort of dropped on our laps by a customer to help pay a good proportion of his repair bill. Hadn't run in six years....a new battery, a few gallons of gas and voila! No smoke, no bearing noises, quiet valves, ran and runs great. Oil pressure light goes out instantly. Fitted with a Weber carb with electric choke, we threw on some nearly new tires, and went for a very successful test drive. Good power, no clutch slip (only shows 31,000 miles on the odometer), very good ride, excellent transmission. And in addition..... interior is very clean....seats, panels, dash, dash top, and carpets, good boot cover and tonneau, mediocre yet usable top.
Now, top is new, just replaced it.
Brakes and clutch work well (checked and bled), nice that these late model cars have an all synchromesh transmission. Floors appear to be excellent, some relatively small rust spots on the exterior but nothing dreadful. Paint is more than presentable. After a few mile drive, we decided to do additional work: new fuel tank (old one seemed a bit internally rusted), new muffler (old one was a bit rotten), new tie rod ends, new rack boots, rebuilt disc calipers, new rotors, all new flex lines, new wiper arms and blades, new Sony stereo/CD with USB input, checked or changed all fluids. All in all....how can we put this.....cheap fun? Or, better, cheap top down fun.
We wound up doing a lot of work, fuel system, brakes, electrical, tires, and the Weber carb makes a big difference in driveability and performance.
Paint looks very good, no signs or rust on the body sides, floor, trunk floor, etc. Did this car lead a charmed life?
