A beautiful example, just finished extensive prep work.
Rebuilt engine, high compression pistons, all new valves and guides, balanced, new 32/36 DGV Weber carb, racing headers, excellent power and perfect running. 4 speed transmission with overdrive......5th gear. Just finished a complete professional chrome bumper conversion, new chrome, grille, brackets, sheet metal, lights, hardware. And by eliminating the side lights, the exterior is identical to the earliest and best looking MGBs.
Lowered to pre 1975 ride height, wire wheel conversion with new wheel splines, new chrome knock offs, the result is a gorgeous car.
Interior has custom reupholstered brownish leather seats, new matching carpets, interior panels, new expensive cloth top, wood dashboard, wood steering wheel, stereo/CD, boot cover, AND new deep green GN29 acrylic paint over a perfect rust free body (which had original paint.....no damage, no bondo, no repairs). Hand wet sanded and buffed to a show finish.
Just installed a new modern air conditioning system with a powerful supplemental heater using the a/c's 3 speed blower. Heat and a/c comparable to a modern car which really makes this car comparable (in use) to a contemporary car.
Excellent rust free floors, sills, chassis, painted and detailed engine and trunk compartments, AND all of the virtues of the later model MGBs......power assist disc brakes with cross drilled, slotted rotors, front and rear sway bars, electronic ignition, thermostatically controlled electric radiator cooling fan, bigger gauges, smoother engine, stronger transmission and overdrive, better wiring and electricals, a superior car in every way.
Lots of little detail improvements....3/4" front sway bar, MGBV8 front bushings, vastly improved interior lights, back up fuel pump, back up cooling fan, external charging terminal, battery switch, door pockets, carpeted trunk, halogen headlights, new oil cooler, excellent ride, improved handling, quick performance.
With 50% more power, punch the gas, open up the secondary throttle, and this car really goes. Have seen 110 mph on level road, turns an easy 3,000 rpm at 70 mph, still gets great fuel economy, and with the incredible flexibility of the B engine, can even pull from under 1,000 rpm in 4th gear.
This car has covered 61,000 miles, very few since the engine was rebuilt (alas, the last owner died) a mere 1,500 miles a year since new. Cared for by its last owner, this beautiful MGB offers a lot of fun, low insurance rates, contemporary use and performance, and very easy maintenance.
