An early car, one of the first 1,400 built. And interesting history.....stored from 1971 through 2011, purchased, prepared, and sold by us in 2012. That owner put on less than 500 miles. So, overall, a very low mileage car. Indicated 51,480 miles since new.
Excellent floors with no observable rust, NO undercoating or signs of repair, very good body with new pale blue paint (best representation of the color can be seen). When we painted it, recently, it appeared that there was only one coat of paint over the original...so now, two. And the engine bay was also painted and detailed.
AND last owner (before us) rebuilt the engine and transmission, properly painted, 150 psi compression in every cylinder, no smoke, and 60-70 psi oil pressure. HE also seems to have rebuilt the twin SU carbs.
Front end is tight, brakes were recently rebuilt 200 miles ago), new master cylinder, recored radiator, very good wiring and electrics. New tirs of correct size (155/80-13 radials), most of the chrome and trim appears to be new, ALL new interior and recovered dash in matching dark blue, top is in good condition as are the side curtains.
All in all, a very nice standard Bug Eye........and in standard form, capable of 75 mph, very good steering and handling, but it all comes down to one key element. FUN to own and FUN to drive. And being a 'Bug Eye,' possibly the cutest small sports car ever built.
