As Wm Shakespeare once wrote 'A Triumph by any other name is....a Triumph V8!' And in this car's case, it is a 5.0 liter Ford V8 with at least 250hp. Which in, putting it into perspective, makes for a very lively TR6. After all, the original engine......2.5 liter six cylinder, a huge, heavy boat anchor, was rated in the USA of only 106hp.
Had a four barrel carb, electronic ignition, and is mated to a five speed transmission. Just about the perfect drive train for this car.
But look at it from this perspective, the TR6 PI (Petrol injection) in England, was rated at 155hp so IF an owner doesn't employ drag racing starts to demonstrate his his car's prowess, to the neighbors, the diff and rear suspension should be ample to take the horsepower and torque of the current engine.
And, as for the rest of the car, excellent body, very clean older paint (in a very attractive bluish gray), excellent tan interior, and when painted, even the engine bay was nicely detailed.
16" Minilite style wheels with new 205/60-16 radials, a lot of rewiring done with extra fuses, has a luggage rack, modern stereo, top is very good, a HUGE aluminum radiator with a large shrouded electric cooling fan (to handle the extra BTUs this engine produces).
Curiously, about 75% OF an old a/c unit is still installed, evaporator, vents, blower, most missing a compressor. So, even a/c could be in this car's future.
IT runs and drives very well, remember, this V8 is far more compact than its original six, lighter, and only four cylinders long. Hence, weight distribution is superior to a stock TR6
And with plenty of room in the engine bay, this conversion makes for a far superior car than, say, a Sunbeam Tiger.Click for legal info
