Last family enjoyed the car for 16 years, currently showing 97k miles (a quick bit of math showing around showing less than 2,000 miles per year). Excellent body painted in red, excellent original interior in black with few signs of any wear.
Engine starts instantly, no smoke, quiet valves, pulls very well through the gears, has a Hurst shifter which makes shifting far better than any VW I have ever driven. And as one of the last Ghias build, has the larger 1600cc engine. The owner's manual contends that it can cruise at 90 mph so highway driving is effortless.
A modern Kenwood stereo and speakers, three point belts, back seat has seat belts, with plenty of storage room in the front trunk and behind the back seat. Rear window is glass and heated, top is in very good condition and padding inside so quiet in operation.
Has disc brakes, alloy wheels, fairly new tires, trunk is spotless, and even has its original owner's manual. And also its original boot cover to go over the top when in the folded position. All in all, a dandy seasonal car that offers awesome reliability, ease of operation, and can even accommodate two children in the back.
While I enjoy, and love, driving older British cars, the VW offers a different form of ownership.....doesn't need much maintenance, anyone can just hop in and drive. A new owner just needs to find a local shop that works on older Bugs, parts are plentiful and generally quite inexpensive, and it does offer a wonderful period style that makes for fun ownership.
